Thus with these words, Benjamin Franklin set out to found the institution that
became the University of Pennsylvania. The teaching of chemistry at the
University of Pennsylvania began in 1751 as part of a course of study in
mathematics and natural science. Today, the chemistry department at Penn
is one of the foremost centers for chemical research and education in the world.
This Web site presents brief overviews of the Department, the University and
environs, and research facilities. In addition, the research interests of
individual faculty are described in greater detail on their pages.
Graphical depictions of some selected projects from the principal areas of
research in the chemistry department are also shown on the Gallery pages.
Prospective graduate students are encouraged to explore the opportunities
available, through this home page and the resources listed here.
